The grande finale
On October 13th, 2017 NCRA members Jaimie Sechrist and Staci Griswold will begin a trek to promote hope, a 3-day endeavor in the quest to find a cure for breast cancer.  You can help!  As Staci & Jaimie explain below your support and assistance are needed to make their journey a success:

Please support Jaimie Sechrist and Staci Griswold as we take on an incredible challenge. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® isn’t just a 60-mile walk over the course of three days—it’s a journey to the end of breast cancer for men and women. Seventy-five percent of the net proceeds raised by the 3-Day® help support Komen’s Research and Training Grant Program and large public health outreach programs for women and men facing breast cancer. The remaining 25 percent helps fund local community and Affiliate support and outreach programs.  We are walking in memory of Jaimie’s father who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and lost his fight in 2016.  Our team name 2 Timber Dogs N Pink, named after Jaimie’s Dad who was a member of the Blackfeet Nation tribe.

My hope is that funds will be allocated to increase awareness of breast cancer in men and provide them with essential emotional support as well as medical supplies.  My father underwent a bilateral mastectomy and his aftercare involved drains from the surgical sites.  The hospital had many supplies for women and nothing to offer men.  We had to create something for him to wear so the drains would not pull away from the surgical site but he struggled with the management of the drains.  The emotional experience alone as a man was difficult but to then be forced to create your own medical supplies during recovery just topped it off.  That being said, our medical staff was amazing and provided guidance when able but if proper supplies existed he would have been more empowered in his own care.’

About the walk, The Susan G. Komen 3-Day® is a community of people who want to go the extra mile and make a BIG impact.  On October 13th, 14th, and 15th we will walk 20 miles each day to total 60 miles in 3 Days! We will experience “glamping” and camp in a pink tent.  Some say it’s a summer camp for adults!  To learn more about the event, please go to www.the3day.org
A simple $35 donation helps provide transportation for a person to get to their mammogram.
